Aereo App Finally Available for Android

Aereo missed it's deadline, but only by a month. In late August, the controversial broadcast video streaming service announced that it would 发布应用 for Android devices in September. Today, it announced in a blog post that the app is finally available. Aereo is calling the app a public beta rather than a final release, so don't be surprised if there are a few bugs yet. No doubt Aereo was eager to get it on the market as quickly as possible. The app works with Android mobile devices running Android OS 4.2 or higher, and is available in the Google Play store.

“We know consumers have been waiting a long time for an Aereo Android app and today, we’re happy to announce its release,” said Aereo's CEO and founder Chet Kanojia. “在Aereo, we believe consumers should have more choice and control over how they watch television and a big part of that is expanding the universe of devices that they can use to access Aereo’s technology."

In related news, Aereo continues to expand into new cities. The company announced that Detroit will get Aereo service on October 28.

Aereo streams over-the-air broadcast channels to subscribers, letting them pause live TV or record it to a cloud DVR. Service starts at $8 per month for a 20-hour DVR or $12 per month for a 60-hour DVR.
